Probably the last residential, or rather mixed-use building of serious architectural note built in Chicago was John Hancock Center, completed 37 years ago. The much-lauded Trump Tower, which, according to Kelleher was probably the latest attempt “to build something innovative was initially designed as an office building. It does not have a particularly residential feel to it. There were many 1920s and 1930s buildings conversions, but they were not exactly new buildings.“
